I recently found out that my 3 yr. old son was grinding his teeth at night. Now I%26#039;ve caught him doing it during the day. I%26#039;ve told him to stop and it%26#039;s not working. I don%26#039;t know what to do. I%26#039;m worried he%26#039;ll cause future damage. Please help.
Teeth grinding-please help!?
He probably has TMJ dysfunction (it stands for something like Tendibular Mandicular Joint). Basically, its lock-jaw. It runs in my family. My dad stops it by wearing a night guard that he got from the dentist. You should definitely bring him to the dentist asap because he will cause damage if it continues. For the daytime, you may also want to try positive reinforcement such as if a
day goes by without you catching him grinding his teeth, then he gets to watch an extra 1/2 hour of cartoons.
Reply:Take him to the dentist. There are various things that they can do to stop it.
Reply:take him to a peds dentist. they have special nightgaurds and exercisees he can do in the day time. good luck!
Reply:yeah take him to the dentist. a friend of mine had the same problem and the doc gave her this mouth peice thing. it kept her teeth apart at night and finally she stopped. it keep in mind that it could be a phase...he%26#039;s 3 and he%26#039;s finding out all the neat things his body can do. if he%26#039;s hurting himself then take him to the doc.
Reply:I have grinded my teeth my whole life. Unfortunately, I still do it and it drives my hubby wild /crazy. The only thing that I have been told is that it is due to stress and such. My dentist recommended that I get a mouth guard to wear at night, but with no dental insurance...we can%26#039;t afford it. I did get one at the local pharmacy, but it just didn%26#039;t fit quite right. As far as future damage...it will just wear down his teeth causing some discomfort from time to time, but I don%26#039;t remember my dentist telling me any different.
