Teeth Grinding/Clenching?

Hi =]

I have had ear pains for as long as i can remember, this year they have unfortunately got really bad. So, my mum and i have been going to all these doctors, and at this very moment they ALL say i%26#039;m clenching/grinding my teeth. I have got a couple of x-rays done,1 today say

The temporomandibular joint on the right appears narrowed and there is reduced foward translocation on the functional views. If anyone can translate please do!!

Also i%26#039;m going back to the dentist to have a bite plate made!

Thanks, if anyone has this problem or could help us work out what that x-ray meant!

Teeth Grinding/Clenching?
people often teeth grind in their sleep..mostly caused by stress
Reply:This link should help explain it some. http://www.tmj.org/basics.asp TMJ (temporomanidibular joint dysfuntion) is quite common and so is bruxism (tooth grinding). http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/uva... bite plate (night guard) should help.

I%26#039;ve had 2 different night guards for tooth grinding myself. They work for most people.

Good luck!
Reply:Functional view--you are biting on that side when the film was taken.

forward translocation--The head of the mandible is forward (to the front) You can%26#039;t move it forward as far as you should be able to.

joint appears narrowed. Probably the ptergoid muscles which move the jaw from side to side don%26#039;t function properly. Which means you have an interference when you chew from side to side.

My guess is that the problem is so severe and so long standing that an occlusal equilibration can%26#039;t be done and a plate to even the bite is the answer.
